An SO thread has suggested that I don't have enough storage space for the SDK, but I have almost 31GB of empty space on my C:\ drive, another one has suggested that I have a proxy/ http problem but I don't think that this is the problem here since I've downloaded the IDE with no problems. Android Studio notifies you with a small bubble dialog when an update is available for the IDE, but you can manually check for updates by clicking Help > Check for Update (on Mac, Android Studio > Check for Updates). Therefore, I downloaded the SDK tools and put it in the directory specified, but that didn't work. The SDK manager was never Installed, I couldn't find it in the directory mentioned.
